Pregnancy and babies are a joyful, fulfilling time in most women's lives. But unfortunately, the reality may not always match the expectations. Sometimes there is a baby on the way, but there might be a serious developmental disorder or a miscarriage. The changes in a woman's body and hormone levels can have an impact on her self-image. A premature birth, illness or traumatic birth experience can destroy carefully constructed plans. Anxiety and depression can occur during pregnancy and after childbirth.
Being a mother is beautiful but not easy. 24/7 stand-by, sleepless nights, exhaustion, breastfeeding difficulties can cause irritability, frustration and can test the most optimistic mum and the most stable relationship.
A housekeeper, babysitter or even a kind friend to relieve the burden for an hour or two a week can go a long way. A friend to share your difficulties, a grandmother to temporarily take the household chores off your shoulders so you can relax when you can. Ask for and accept the help offered. The saying goes that it takes a village to raise a child.
